Sheltered Housing

Sheltered housing is a group of homes designed especially for older people. Each home is fully self-contained with its own front door.

The aim of sheltered housing is to allow people to live as independently as possible, safe in the knowledge that there is always help available should they need it.

Whitefriars has twelve schemes across Coventry. We offer both one-bedroom flats available to single people or couples and easily maintained studio apartments.

Each flat has an emergency care call alarm. When the staff are not on duty, the alarm is monitored through the ‘Astraline’ call centre.

Facilities provided:

  • All flats and studio apartments come with a fitted kitchen including a cooker and a fridge
  • Communal laundry with washing and drying machines and ironing facilities
  • Communal lounge used for a variety of social activities
  • Some schemes have a guest room where family and friends may stay when visiting
  • Gardens where residents may sit and relax or do a bit of gardening themselves if they wish

The role of the scheme staff is to provide support and to ensure that the building is clean, safe and secure.

  • For more information on sheltered housing, see the Independent Living leaflet on our ‘Policy and information leaflets’ page on this site, or contact the Independent Living Team on 024 7621 0016.
