Proposal for Whitefriars to Join the West Mercia Housing Group
Whitefriars is thinking about joining the West Mercia Housing
Group. This will strengthen its longer term position as a landlord,
service provider and developer of new homes in the city.
Customer consultation on the proposal runs from the 16 June to the
28 July 2008.
Click here or on the link below for a copy of the consultation
leaflet which gives more information on the proposal, what it
will mean if it goes ahead and how you can give us your views.
We think that the main concern of our customers will be about who
owns their homes in future, who rent is paid to, their continued
rights and the accessibility of locally delivered services. The
simple answer if that none of that would change. Whitefriars would
still own and manage its homes in the city through its existing
staff and offices, but would join and benefit from being part of a
larger group of associations.
The existing members of the group are Nexus, Harden and Kemble who
manage their properties elsewhere in the Midlands.

We believe that joining the group can bring the following benefits :
- savings in running costs, through sharing and modernising of systems
- sharing of good practices and experiences to provide better approaches to service delivery
- more investment in local community projects as efficiency savings are delivered
- building more affordable homes locally. WMHG have preferred development status with the Housing Corporations joining them will enable more new housing development for rent in Coventry
- more national and local influence in the future of housing.

Garden Competition 2008
It
is once again that time of year for the Whitefriars Garden
Competition. This time it is open to all of our residents and we
want as many as possible to get involved. Whether you enter every
year or if you have never entered a competition before, we would
love to get your entry. You don't have to be the greatest gardener
in the world, it's about getting involved and making your little
piece of the world something to enjoy.
All you have to do is fill in the form below and we will do the rest. We will sort out which categories you are eligible to enter and arrange for the judge to come out and see you.
New Category
To open up the competition to as many people as possible we now have the new category of Best Individual Planting. It may be that you have a simple garden with one border you are proud of, a planting around a water feature or tree, or even a collection of tubs on your patio - it's wide open!
This category recognises people who may have just a part of their garden they are proud of and want to enter that area too..
Free Tree
Nowadays everyone is keen to do their part for the environment and we are no exception. Trees are great for the planet and help to make the city a more attractive place. So this year we are giving away free trees.
